Birch Bark Canoes
The Birch Bark Canoe: Navigating a New World  "A documentary (20 minutes) and teachers’ curriculum guide that celebrates First Nations ingenuity and technology as demonstrated by the design and achievement of the birch bark canoe." The teachers' guide includes lesson ideas that incorporate Social Studies, English language Arts, Science, Math and Art. Made for the Manitoba curriculum, the lessons can be used to meet BC learning standards. Math concepts: patterns, data collection and analysis, word problems, geometry, symmetry, measurements, 3D shapes

Math Catcher: Mathematics Through Aboriginal Storytelling (SFU)  These resources are good for K12 students. From the site  The site contains a series of stories with mathematical themes (videos and written versions). These stories are based on the storytelling tradition of Aboriginal peoples. The main character is Small Number. He is a bright, playful kid, with the ability to recognize patterns and calculate quickly. To underline the universality of mathematics, Small Number and the plots of our stories are not attached to a particular time and space. In the first story, Small Number lives in a tipi settlement somewhere in the plains. In the second story he lives by a body of water, a river or a sea, and the third story is set in an urban environment.
